Home Depot is enticing people to "renew and redo your bath for less," Sears has knocked 30 percent off the price of Kenmore appliances and hhgregg promises sales on "everything $99 and up." This is how we celebrate our presidents? Apparently so.

Coming on the third Monday of February, Presidents' Day has become as famous for deals as it has for George and Abe. (Check the weekend car deals.) And with warmer weather in the offing, it's a good time to plan ahead for spring. We took a look at retailer websites and circulars and found sales on some appliances and other products that have done well in our tests.

Home Depot is offering a "Buy 3, Get 1 Free" promo on one- and five-gallon buckets of Behr Premium Plus Ultra, Behr Ultra, Glidden, and Martha Stewart Living paints. (See our new paint Ratings.) Home Depot is also offering 10 percent off all appliances $398 or more, along with free delivery and haul-away.

In addition to the 30 percent off its Kenmore appliances, Sears if offering 15 percent off other brands. All Craftsman power, lawn and garden tools, and outdoor storage items will be 20 percent off in stores starting Sunday. Free in-store pickup is available for many appliances ordered online, and Sears will haul away and recycle old appliances for $10.
